TAIPEI, Taiwan — According to survey of the Industrial Economics and Knowledge Center (IEK), the business opportunity of Internet of Things (IoT) lies in healthcare, smart management and smart manufacturing. The center said that these three domains drive the associate IoT platforms, Asus and Advantech are two local big names in the field.
EK forecast IoT is the fundamental basis of realizing smart manufacturing, which has the greatest business opportunity comparing with healthcare and smart management.
“Smart manufacturing can be applied in various platforms. For instance, IBM, GE, SAP, Bosch, Advantech and Asus all have rolled out different types of IoT platforms for smart manufacturing.” said Harrison Hsiung, Senior Analyst and Manager of IEK.
IEK also stated that coping with IoT development, local companies had better rethink the market point of view. In other words, small-volume, large-variety production, Product-as-a-Service are going to relocate the supply chain.
Therefore, the definition of supply chain wouldn’t be the same as that of in the past. The upstream supplier and downstream supplier would be challenged in the coming IoT era.
Asus launched implementation IoT applications on Asus cloud platform that supports many types of smart gateways and sensors to enable devices management, remote wireless access, and big data analysis, supporting users around the world and apps development, too. Moreover, it supports big data processing to realize smart applications based on Open API, suits different smart city life scenarios, and helps develop a brand new API economy.
Meanwhile, Advantech has many embedded IoT solutions. The IoT applications are getting complicated due to the need for smarter, faster and more accurate intelligent systems. In response to this trend, the company provides embedded M2M/IoT module integration services in order to minimize the workload of system integrators.
