Significant rise in Southeast Asian buyers at annual procurement event
Sourcing Taiwan, the annual procurement event hosted by TAITRA, saw a big rise in buyer attendance from Southeast Asia this year.
Now in its 9th year, the latest edition of Sourcing Taiwan was held at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Hall on March 29, 2017.
A total of 581 buyers from 61 countries attended the procurement extravaganza. They were joined by 1,600 Taiwanese suppliers in the fields of IT, machinery, and auto parts, as well as 10 other industries.
Sourcing Taiwan 2017 saw a 10% rise in Southeast Asian buyer attendance. Around 250 buyers from Southeast Asia made up over 40% of all the buyers at the event.
In 2016, Southeast Asian buyers accounted for about 30% of the total buyer attendance.
Altogether, around 7,000 business meetings were conducted between the buyers and suppliers during the course of the 1-day event.
Among the enterprises that attended the event in Taiwan for the first time were Indonesia’s second-largest e-commerce company blibli.com and Vietnamese e-commerce company Tiki.VN.
There were also Indonesia’s largest automobile accessories manufacturer Astra Otoparts, Vietnam’s largest construction company Coteccons Group, and Vietnam’s biggest ICT importer KMD Company Limited.
Other notable buyers at the event included Japanese consumer electronic retailer Bic Camera, global e-commerce company Newegg, semiconductor company Future Electronics, China’s Sunning Commerce Group, and German tool equipment maker Meister Werkzeuge.
