Showcasing Taiwan Machine Tools in Malaysia

(19 May, Kuala Lumpur) Metaltech 2014 to be held from May 21 to 24 in the Putra World Trade Centre Malaysia has established itself as the most reputable and comprehensive trade fair of its kind in Southeast Asia. This year’s event attracted 43 exhibitors from Taiwan, including, amongst others, leading companies such as FFG Enterprise, CHMER EDM, and Hiwin Technologies. These companies will be showcasing their latest machines and their outstanding research and development.

This year’s Metaltech has attracted a total of 567 exhibitors from 44 countries, of which 43 are from Taiwan. The exhibitors from Taiwan are led by Taiwan Machine Tool & Accessory Builders’ Association (TMBA) and the Chinese Fluid Power Association, and will be showcasing 254 international brands. The Taiwan Pavilion covers a total of 605 square meters across Hall 1, 3, and 4, making it the largest international pavilion of the exhibition.

According to Mr Chang Ming, head of Economic Division, Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Malaysia, the machine tool industry is an important pillar of Taiwan’s economy, and the best representative of the MIT (Made in Taiwan) concept. The industry is worth some 5.43 billion US dollars a year and 80% of the output is bound for export, cementing Taiwan’s position as the fourth largest exporter of machine tools in the world.

Malaysia imported about USD 80 million worth of lathes and turning machines in 2013, of which 37.5% (USD 30 million) are imported from Taiwan. Malaysia also imported some USD 100 million worth of machining centers last year, and 20% (USD 20 million) are from Taiwan. Trade figures indicated that Taiwan is the 3rd largest source for machine tools imported into Malaysia and the trade volume is expected to increase even more this year.

Director of Taiwan Trade Center in Kuala Lumpur Jessie Tseng remarked that Taiwan is home to many cutting-edge technologies and products which have helped established the island as a leader in this field. As a major supplier of machine tools in the global market, Taiwan has built a strong reputation for high quality products which has helped secure its position as an important component in the global supply chain.

Taiwan’s machine tool industry has made successful inroads into the global arena and encompasses major areas including solar energy, semiconductor, panelling, automotive production and more. The industry in Taiwan is expected to grow significantly this year which will further enhance her standing in the global market. The continued growth of the Taiwanese industry will ensure that it is able to meet the growing needs from the Asian market, especially from Malaysia.

Looking ahead, Mr. Juan Chang-Mao, Deputy Secretary-General of Taiwan Machine Tool & Accessory Builder’s Association (TMBA), stressed that Taiwan machine tool aand component industry is expected to see growth of 15-20% in 2014 as the world economy sees steady growth, demand continues to grow in emerging countries such as India, Thailand and Malaysia, which, will enable the Taiwan machine tools industry to achieve sustained growth in both output value and exports.

To foster greater cooperation between Malaysia and Taiwan in this industry, the Taiwanese Bureau of Foreign Trade has entrusted TAITRA to organise the Taiwan Machine Tool New Products Launch on May 21 during Metaltech 2014 to update visitors on some of the key products brought in for the exhibition.

The launch will see the introduction of new machines such as CHMER’s High Precision Gantry type Linear Motor Drive Wire Cut EDM, Super T-Tangential External Recirculation Ballscrew by Hiwin Technologies, PV-1318 High-Speed Double-Column Machining Center by Kao Fong Machinery, Advanced Manufacturing Technology-SEYI’s Servo Press by Shieh Yih Machinery Industry, as well as the Compact Precision Gang Type CNC lathe-Q5 by TONGTAI Machine Tool (SEA) Sdn.
