Taiwan’s machinery exports climbed 21.1 percent year on year to an all-time high of US$25.6 billion in 2017, according to the latest statistics by the Ministry of Finance and Taiwan Machine Tool and Accessory Builders Association (TMBA).
The Taiwanese government is currently promoting a policy for industrial innovation. With smart manufacturing being one of the pillars of the policy, many Taiwanese machine tool makers and aircraft manufacturers are onboard with the government’s economic vision and are invested in the development of new smart-manufacturing technologies.

According to the Indonesian Ministry of Industry, Indonesia’s purchasing managers index (PMI) stood at 50.4 in September 2017. They are optimistic that the industry’s growth until the end of 2017 is still good as the investment realization from various industrial sectors.
TAITRA, the Taiwanese machine tool association, recently hosted a global group of journalists for a tour of the Taiwanese machine tool industry. On that trip, our major question was: what does Taiwan have to offer in this area, and where does Taiwan rank relative to the major machine tool manufacturing nations such as Germany and Japan?
